At Lake Effect Diner, I oversaw and managed all graphic design projects including menu design, special offer promotions, and retail branding and packaging. Through working with Lake Effect, I have had the opportunity to practice my passion for
food-related branding and creative content.
Menu Redesign
I utilized Lake Effect’s existing branding and color scheme to develop an eye-catching and informative menu. If you are like me, a menu can easily be overwhelming as there is so much information to absorb and many options to choose from. My approach to this menu was to maximize the space efficiently to fit the extensive menu on four pages while also not overwhelming the customer’s eye by strategically placing menu items and adds in a visually appealing manner.
Branding & Packaging
Lake Effect Diner has always prided itself on their from-scratch homestyle dishes. While it has always been an option for customers to take the in-house product to-go, not many people knew about this option and what items off the menu they could purchase. My solution to this was to implement a designated spot on the menu with a list of retail items (shown above) and also to implement visually appealing branding and packaging for the products to show in the restaurant so customers could visualize a product. By creating a retail space within the restaurant and creating custom logos for the products, customers develop a curiosity about the product.

It is no secret that a social media presence is crucial in boosting customer awareness and loyalty. My goal in developing Lake Effect Diner’s social media was to inform customers about the restaurant’s hours, menu, and specials while constructing a nostalgic and familiar tone to match the vintage 1950s aesthetics of the retro diner car. I also aimed to increase the account’s engagement within the community to effectively build loyal and positive relationships with both other local businesses and customers. Additionally, I created content such as posts, stories, and reels to maximize Lake Effect Diner’s reach while also establishing the restaurant’s commitment to excellence through carefully curated and high-quality, personal content.

Redesigning Lake Effect’s website was another tactic I used in the business’s development of an online profile. Using Square Space, I redesigned Lake Effect’s website to include more accurate information about the menu, methods of contact, and job information. By leveraging the powerful SEO tools offered by Squarespace and Google Business Profile, I successfully enhanced the restaurant’s search engine ranking and local search presence. Through targeted keyword research, optimized content, and maximizing local SEO features, my business gained higher visibility in search results, attracting more relevant traffic and potential customers. This approach not only improved overall website traffic but also enhanced brand awareness and customer engagement, driving sustainable growth and success.
Apple Business Connect is another channel that has been essential in maximizing Lake Effect Diner’s search results and providing accurate information to potential customers. By optimizing our profile with relevant keywords and updating details regularly, Lake Effect has enhanced its visibility across multiple channels.
